Crognaleto is a town and comune in Teramo province in the Abruzzo region of eastern Italy. It is known for a cured pork product known as ventricina. The road from Crognaletto to Teramo passes through Valle San Giovanni, home of Casale.
In 2008 the 24th Annual ‘Pentathlon del Boscaiolo’ (Pentathlon of the Woodsmen) was held in Nerito, a frazione (outlying area) of Crognaleto. Three person teams competed in five events (cutting a tree trunk with a hatchet, felling a tree with a handsaw, etc) during the course of this national championship.
Crognaletto is not a rich town and a good number of the residents have left the area in search of their fortune. Some have traveled as far as the State of New Jersey in the United States of America. One family from Crognaleto are the proprietors of a popular pizzeria, the Country Store, in Pedricktown, NJ. People travel from all over southern New Jersey to taste their authentic Italian dishes.
